On Friday the world's attention will be riveted to Sochi, a resort town, which is located between the Black Sea and the Caucasus mountains. The sea and the mountains become geographical background of these Games. However, the front is now coming geopolitical situation.
Neighboring regions such as Chechnya and Dagestan with their rebellious Muslim population, forced to fear the terrorist threat.
Furthermore, there is unfolding revolution. Only 600 miles is Kiev, capital of Ukraine. Country with a population of 45 million people undergoing revolutionary upheavals. Ukraine gained its independence in 1991, when the Soviet Union collapsed. However, it is still inextricably linked with "Mother Russia."
To better understand what is happening and what it might mean for the Games in Sochi, I chatted with a man who truly is familiar with the region and its players. Henry Kissinger served as Secretary of State under Richard Nixon. Now he heads the firm Kissinger Associates, which helps corporations to do business worldwide.
